As a teacher, I always strive to meet my students where they are to develop a course of learning that matches their personality, learning style, and natural curiosity about music. I adamantly believe that everyone can benefit from learning a musical instrument, no matter their age or level of natural aptitude towards learning music. I strive to always be sensitive towards the needs of each individual and to tailor lessons accordingly, so that each of my students not only has a wonderful experience, but is able to reach his or her full potential at the piano. Each person has a different learning speed and style, as well as a different background and different interests - this shapes how I approach the lesson so that the student can have the best experience possible and come out of the lesson loving music. For this reason I am patient and I always welcome discussion and ideas - if I know how the student is feeling then I can adapt my teaching to be most beneficial to him or her.

I also believe that from the very beginning it is important to give students a well-rounded musical education - I don't focus solely on playing, but also include basic theory knowledge, ear training, and reading skills. I have experience with and have completed coursework in teaching theory, which has shown me how incorporating theory into my private piano lessons can be extremely beneficial.

Finally, I believe that studying a musical instrument should be for everyone, regardless of how quickly they may learn or where their interests lie. I work with each of my students to find the aspect of playing piano that excites them, so that they might have a true desire to practice and hopefully grow to love the piano and music. Above all I think that the one-on-one relationship between a student and his or her piano teacher is very important and should be filled with respect and caring. I strive to give all of my students a sense of belonging through their experience with music lessons. I believe that everyone is able to enjoy making music, listening to music, and studying music, and I hope to inspire my students to do so.
