Praised for her high level of energy and sensitive playing, Canadian pianist Leah Dominy of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario has been recognized internationally for her talent. Her early teachers included Glenn Flood, Dale Innes, and William Aide, with whom she studied to receive her Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Piano Performance with first class honours. She subsequently joined the world renowned Toradze Piano Studio at Indiana University South Bend, studying with Alexander Toradze and assistant Ketevan Badridze and completing her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. In 2015, she completed her Master's of Music degree in Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory with Alexander Korsantia, and in 2018 she graduated with her Konzertexamen from the Hochschule für Musik Detmold after studying with Elena Margolina-Hait.
Leah has been successful in many competitions, placing 2nd at the 2011 Jefferson Symphony International Young Artists’ Competition (Colorado), 1st in the Undergraduate Piano category at the 2011 Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Collegiate Scholarship Competition, 1st at the Ontario Music Festival Association Provincial Finals, 1st in the Sault Symphony Young Artists’ Competition, 1st in the Kiwanis Shield Competition, and was prizewinner at both the Canadian Music Competition National Finals and at the Lennox International Young Artists’ Competition.
Leah has performed in venues across North America and Europe, including a performance of the “Emerson” movement of Charles Ives’ Concord Sonata in Boston’s Jordan Hall. Other notable performances
include a Distinguished Artist recital at the Algoma Music Camp and appearances with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, the IUSB Philharmonic, the Sault Symphony Orchestra, the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra, and the Algoma Chamber Orchestra. Leah was also a regular performer with the Toradze Studio from 2009-2013 and has attended and performed at the Orford Summer Music Academy, the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, the Gijon International Piano Festival, the International Holland Music Sessions, and the Banff Centre Piano Master Class.
In addition to performing, Leah is a passionate teacher. She has taught the Piano for Non-Majors class at the New England Conservatory, and taught at both the Merry Melody Music Academy in Dover, MA and Music 101 in Melrose, MA between 2014 and 2016. Leah strives to inspire her students and audiences alike to appreciate and enjoy classical music.
